What is included

What goes into planting

  1. Bed prep

Old growth and weeds cleared, edges shaped, and the soil loosened so new roots can spread.

  2. Planting

Each plant set at the right depth, with the top of the root ball at or slightly above grade.

  3. Palms and trees

Placed for their mature size, clear of the roof, walls, walkways and utility lines.

  4. Finish

Watered in and mulched, so the bed holds moisture and looks finished on day one.

Florida know-how

Getting new plants through the first year

The hardest part of any planting is establishment. Until roots grow out of the nursery ball and into the surrounding soil, a new plant depends on steady water. In sandy Florida soil a root ball can dry out in a day or two of summer sun.

Trees and larger shrubs take longer to establish than small plants, often many months. Planting too deep is one of the most common reasons a new tree struggles, which is why depth gets checked on every plant.

Our work

Recent work

I can’t say enough about this company. Ben and his crew are top notch. They took their time and completely transformed my landscaping and installed some amazing lighting. Ben even went above and beyond and searched three counties to find the perfect rocks! My house looks amazing and my neighbors are so jealous!

FAQ

Common questions

When is the best time to plant?

In most of Florida you can plant year round. The summer rainy season helps with watering, and the cooler months are easier on new plants. Either way, new plantings need regular water until they root in.

How deep should a tree be planted?

The point where the trunk flares out at the base should sit at or just above the soil. A buried root flare can weaken a tree for years.

Should new beds get fertilizer right away?

Usually not much. New plants need water and time to grow roots first. Heavy feeding at planting can do more harm than good, and many local rules limit fertilizer during the rainy season.
