Why edges matter in Florida beds
A summer downpour can wash mulch and rock straight out of an open bed and onto the lawn or the driveway. A raised, continuous edge holds the bed together through the rainy season.
Curbing also gives the lawn a firm line to stop against. Runners from St. Augustine and other spreading grasses creep into beds quickly, and a solid edge makes them easy to keep back.

Common questions
Curbing or plastic edging?
Plastic and metal edging cost less, but they lift, shift and get chewed up by trimmers. Concrete curbing stays put and keeps its line for years.
Can curbing go around trees?
Yes. Rings around trees and palms are one of the most common uses, and they protect trunks from trimmer damage too.
Does curbing crack?
Concrete can develop small hairline cracks, which is why curbing is usually cut with control joints at intervals. They let any cracking happen in a straight, tidy line.
