Pavers and hardscapes

Patios, walkways and borders that give the garden structure, built on a compacted base so they stay flat and drain.

What is included

What holds a paver job together

  1. The base

Excavation, a compacted base and a level bedding layer. This is what keeps pavers from sinking later.

  2. Layout and pattern

Shapes and patterns that suit the house, with curves and cuts planned before the first paver goes down.

  3. Edge restraint

A firm edge that stops the field from spreading over time.

  4. Planting around it

Beds and plants that soften the edges, so the hardscape looks like part of the garden.

Florida know-how

Hardscape in sand and summer rain

Florida sand drains well, but it moves when it is wet and loose. A well compacted base is what keeps a patio flat through years of storms. Every hard surface also needs a slight slope, so heavy rain runs away from the house and off the patio.

Pavers flex with small ground movement and can be lifted and reset if needed, which is why they are popular here. Lighter colors also stay cooler underfoot in full sun, a real difference around a pool.

Our work

Recent work

I can’t say enough about this company. Ben and his crew are top notch. They took their time and completely transformed my landscaping and installed some amazing lighting. Ben even went above and beyond and searched three counties to find the perfect rocks! My house looks amazing and my neighbors are so jealous!

FAQ

Common questions

Pavers or poured concrete?

Concrete costs less up front. Pavers handle ground movement better, can be repaired one piece at a time, and offer far more looks. For patios and walks that you want to last, pavers are hard to beat.

Why do some paver patios sink?

Almost always the base. Pavers laid on thin or uncompacted base material settle where people walk and where water collects.

Can plants grow right up to pavers?

Yes, with the right plants. Choose plants that will not outgrow the space or push roots under the edge, and keep mulch and soil from washing onto the surface.
